Mdf edge sealer. Up here there are a few brands that have a specific product for that its usually just called edge sealer. I tried just painting without pva but the edge of the mdf soaked the varnish and made it very dark. I then scuff and put a coat on it all. The edges of mdf can be a little tricky to paint because the end grain will keep coming through the paint and will be visible even after sanding and painting a few coats of primer and gloss.
