Danish oil fumes. Danish oil is a hard drying oil meaning it can polymerize into a solid form when it reacts with oxygen in the atmosphere. Both fumes could be harmful if inhaled so be sure to use them in well ventilated areas. Waterborne finishes are kind of smelly at first to me my wife barely notices but undetectable after about 2 hours. Danish oil is definitely on the offensive end for finishes.

Bestwood danish oil is food and toy safe when dry. The solvent used in bestwood danish oil is dearomatized white spirit which is less irritating to skin and lower in odour than traditional white spirit and is completely biodegradable. I have a new born a 2 year old and a 4 year old whos getting the bed in the house. Thats about the same as oil based poly.
I am thinking of using danish oil but was wondering if there is any issue with fumes. Watco danish oil and tung oil are two common forms of wood finishing oil each with their own unique drawbacks and benefits. The dry product contains only pure tung oil it does not contain any artificial varnish or resins or other vegetable oils. I use linseed oil which is slower on both counts but more durable.
