Gfci in garage wont reset. If the gfci wont reset or the button doesnt pop out when you press the test button there may be no power to the gfci or you may have a bad gfci. Resetyou will have to press the reset button after the gfci outlet shuts off power to an electrical circuit due to a detected problem or after the test button is pressed. The most likely reason for a ground fault circuit interrupter gfci failing to reset is that there is a ground fault in the circuit. When the outlets breaker has tripped it must be reset to restore electrical current to the outlet.
The gfi protection comes from an internal breaker that trips to terminate electrical current to the outlet if the circuit is overloaded or shorted. A gfi breaker that will not reset indicates a deeper response to the circuit fault or a failed. While this isnt harmful a gfci added in the bathroom may trip one originally installed in the garage. Look for gfcis in bathrooms kitchens basements garages and on the homes exterior.
Test and reset every gfci you find.
